Firefighters in Lynchburg , Virginia fought a residential structure fire in the city's Historic District on Tuesday August 29, 2006 . The structure which was built in 1898 had been converted to apartments in the 1920's and contained at least 10,000 square feet of floor space. The heavy volume of fire within the residence and partial structural collapse, required fire crews to utilize defense fire attack strategies.
The fire is still under investigation by the Lynchburg Fire and EMS Department's Fire Marshal's Office.
