During an early morning thunderstorm on Thursday, August 24th, Kenosha, Wisconsin Firefighters responded to an apartment building fire at St. Catherine's Commons, a senior citizen housing complex located on Kenosha's north side. Firefighters battled the fire, which appeared to be primarily concentrated to the roof and upper floors of the four story apartment building's south wing using handlines, deck guns, and at least four aerial pipes.

News reports indicate approximately 67 residents were evacuated from the building by firefighters within thirty minutes in addition to other residents who had already self evacuated. There were no immediate reports of injuries either.

In the early stages of the fire, command requested nearly all of Kenosha Fire Department's resources. Off-duty personnel were recalled and the fire was elevated to a MABAS 5th alarm bringing fire companies from Kenosha and Racine Counties, as well as Lake County Illinois. Mutual Aid fire companies responded to the fire scene and to Kenosha's seven firehouses to maintain protection for the city while the fire was battled.

The fire reportedly caused approximately $13 million in damages.
