On Thursday 8/24/06 at 3:00 PM Cambridge, Ohio firefighters were dispatched to a residential area on the report of an explosion and fire . On arrival Cambridge engine companies reported a totally involved dwelling with fire extension into adoining structures.
Mutual aid departments were special called to assist Cambridge firefighters and all off duty city personnel were recalled.
The fires were the result of a Natural Gas line rupture inside one home that destroyed two homes and seriously damaged a third. Two people were seriously injured and transported by mediacal helicopter to Columbus area hospitals. The fires were controlled in two hours.
As Mutual Aid companies were leaving the scene an alarm was struck for a commercial building on fire in the downtown area. Arriving Mutual Aid companies, along with Cambridge's aerial tower reported smoke in the roof of a two story commercial/apartment building. The fire was the result of a kitchen fire that spread into the cockloft area of the structure. The fire was controlled in 35 minutes using three engines, two aerial towers and 30 firefighters
Departments assisting Cambridge included, Byesville, Liberty, Lore City, New Concord and Old Washington.
