Shortly after 8 on the morning of July 15, 2006, the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department and other units were alerted for the report of a building fire in the 5400 block of Van Dusen Road, at Laurel Asphalt. Arriving units found a concrete mixer on fire on a scaffolding about 30 feet in the air.
Foam apparatus from College Park was requested to apply foam to the fire. Firefighters faced water supply problems, and used large diameter supply and attack lines to fight the fire. A nearby pond was used as a drafting site for water supply. The fire was declared out shortly after 10 o'clock, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is reported to be from workers working on the machine.
