On Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at 4:13 p.m. the Richmond Department of Fire and Emergency Services was dispatched to a working house fire. Companies arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and fire showing from a two-story cape.
Because this house was structurally unstable from a previous fire that had occurred on February 22, 2006, companies took a defensive position. Heavy smoke from the fire affected rush hour traffic on nearby Interstate 95 for about an hour.
Utilizing ladder pipes and handlines it took firefighters several hours to completely extinguish this fire. The fire is suspicious in nature and currently under investigation.
