Firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at a church in Ellicott City Thursday evening.
Howard County crews responded at about 8:30 p.m. to the First Seventh Day Adventist Church on St. Johns Lane.
Church officials said they just finished a kindergarten graduation ceremony for their school when they heard a loud crack. Moments later, someone noticed flames coming from the roof.
"The sanctuary is what's been damaged and the roof collapsed, so we lost half the roof on the sanctuary, and of course, with the water damage inside, everything else inside is pretty much destroyed," First Seventh Day Adventist Church Pastor Ben Bogus said.
It took about 60 firefighters about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. No one was reported injured.
