On Saturday, March 13, 2004, Washington County, Maryland Emergency Crews were dispatched out at 10:36 AM for a reported leak from a container fill with Chromic Acid Solution.
Units arrived at The Roadway Express Terminal at 311 Oak Ridge Drive outside of Hagerstown, MD to find a container ruptured by workers at the site. Units from Funkstown Fire Department (Engine Co.10) were first on scene of the incident.
HazMat crews from Washington County Emergency Services (Special Operations 20) were able to contain the leak with in less than three hours.
HazMat crews along with the fire department remained on scene for an additional two hours cleaning up the spill of almost 100 gallons. Final crews on the scene cleared the incident by 3:35 PM.
No injuries were reported.
Crews assisting the Funkstown Fire Department on the incident consisted of Halfway Fire Co.26, Community Rescue Service Co.75, and Washington County Emergency Services (Special Operations 20, Air Unit 25, and Rehab Unit 255).
