Units from the Santa Clara Fire Department, assisted by mutual aid resources from the San Jose Fire Department, battled a tough three alarm commercial structure fire at 3310 Victor Court on Santa Clara's north side.
The first report of fire at Redwood Space Controls, a manufacturer of printed circuit boards, was received at 12:43 am, April 27, 2006, from a passerby.
Upon arriving at the scene, Battalion Chief Randy Titus called for a defensive effort due to the intensity of the fire and to keep flames from spreading to a neighboring business. Within only 10 minutes Titus called for a second and third-alarm to contend with heavy fire and smoke from the fully involved structure.
According to Santa Clara Fire Department spokesman Dave Parker, the fire required the work of over 50 firefighters to prevent flames from breaching a firewall and destroying an adjacent machine shop within the same building.
Firefighters were able to control the blaze after approximately three hours. There were no reports of injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Preliminary damage estimates exceed $4 million.
Units that responded to this incident included Santa Clara Battalion 1; Engines 6, 8, 10, 9, 5, and 1; Trucks 8 and 2; and HAZMAT 9. Additionally San Jose sent Battalion 29 (Ruben Torres), Truck 29, and Engine 29.
