Lampeter Engine 5-4-2 and Willow Street Rescue 5-12 were dispatched to a vehicle accident with entrapment at the intersection of Beaver Valley Pike (Route 222) and Penn Grant Road in West Lampeter Township.
Units were dispatched by Lancaster County-Wide Communications at 1:47 p.m on Friday, April 21. EMS units responded from Susquehanna Valley EMS and included Medic 7-7-8, Medic 7-7-9 and Medic 709.
Medic 7-7-8 arrived at the scene first and reported one tractor trailer went over the top of a passenger car. West Lampeter Police also reporting confirmed entrapment. At that time a medical helicopter was requested to the scene along with additional Engines 5-4-1 and 5-12-2 from Lampeter and Willow Street respectively. Also Refton Engine 5-9-1 was requested to set up a landing site for Sky Flightcare.
Sky Flightcare arrived at the scene but by that time their services were not required.
Rescue and EMS attempts to save the person trapped were unsuccessful and the patient was pronounced dead at the scene by a Lancaster County Coroner.
Police determined that a 92 year-old man driving a 1994 Buick Century north on Beaver Valley Pike attempted to turn left onto Penn Grant Road.
A tractor trailer traveling south on Beaver Valley Pike struck the car at the intersection.
The roadway was closed for about 5 hours while police conducted their investigation.
