On February 22, 2004 at 19:10 the Brookshire Volunteer Fire Department received a call reporting a major accident on Interstate 10 Westbound. Prior to, and during, the wreck thunderstorms were in the area.
Upon arrival, Chief Joe Gibbs assumed command and after a scene size up, initiated mutual aid from the Katy Volunteer Fire Department. At 19:23 the Katy Volunteer Fire Department received a mutual aid request from Chief Gibbs reporting a 7 car major accident with 5 cars heavily involved with fire. Katy Fire Chief Warner Preston, Katy Engine 1, Katy Engine 2, and Katy Rescue 1 responded to assist with fire/rescue operations. Chief Gibbs also requested for EMS to respond. Katy Medic 1 and Katy Medic 2 responded to the scene as well.
