On April 16th, at 3:05 pm, when most people were eating their Easter dinner, the Bayville Fire Department was dispatched for a report of a house fire at 253 Ocean Gate TPK.
Upon responding, Chief John Anderson reported smoke showing from several blocks away.
Upon arrival, Chief Anderson found a 2- story wood frame structure with fire showing from the first and second floor windows, and through the roof. He then asked the first due engine to lay two 3" lines. That company then stretched two 2 1/2" lines to the front door and began an aggressive interior attack on the first and second floors.
Chief Anderson requested a 2nd and a 3rd alarm.
With heavy fire condition showing, Chief Anderson ordered crews to pull out of the building.
The second floor crew was backing out when the second floor flashed over occured. He then went to exterior operations.
A tower ladder was setup and a 3" line was brought to the rear of the building as there were several hand lines used in the front.
Towns from Pine Wall, Manitou Park, Ocean Gate, Pine Beach, and a brush truck was also brought in from the forestry service.
Companies where brought to the scene, and to standby in fire head quarters.
In an interview of Chief Anderson after the fire he said two firefighters were taken to the hospital and two were treated at the scene and released.
There was also no one home at the time.
The fire is being investigated by the local fire marshals office.
