Van Nuys, CA - On Tuesday, April 4, 2006, around 6:30 pm, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a report of a man in the wash.
A full swift water response was dispatched to the area of Sherman Way and Hayvenhurst Avenue near the Van Nuys airport.
First in responders found a 13 year old male clinging to the abutment of the Sherman Way bridge, just above the rain filled Bull Creek flood control channel.
Firefighters on the scene lowered a swift water technician over the side of the wash to the victim. Using a rescue harness and ropes, the victim and the rescuer were raised to safety.
Luckily, the boy, wrapped in a firefighters jacket and blankets, was only treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The boy was transported to Valley Presbyterian Hospital where he was later released.
