Box 08-01: On the morning of Monday, February 20th, units from Prince William County Virginia were called to 8914 Yorkshire Lane for a reported structure fire.

In just a few minutes the first units arrived on scene and reported fire showing from side A of the structure. An attack line and back up line were quickly put in place and crews from Engine 508 (YVFD) and Wagon 511 & Truck 511 (SJVFD) attempted to make entry through the front door of the residence.

Units were unable to force entry through the front door and had to reposition the attack lines to side C of the structure (it was later discovered that the area just inside the front door had been blocked by furniture and storage).

After repositioning to side C of the structure, units made entry through the kitchen and began an initial fire attack, but were limited by the length of their cross-lay.

As interior operations were under way Command (AC508) called for an evacuation of the structure due to deteriorating fire conditions. After a few minutes of exterior operations, crews were given the go-ahead to resume interior operations. By this time crews had managed to open the front door and place an additional line in service.

With adequate ventilation and access to the structure the bulk of the fire was quickly brought under control.

There were no firefighter injuries and one occupant was transported for smoke inhalation.

The Prince William County Fire Marshall's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

Off-duty firefighter Steven Lessick lives on the same block as the residence.
