Fire Department units were dispatched in response to several calls to the dispatch center reporting a House Fire. First arriving companies reported fire showing from the second floor, front windows of a two story, brick, occupied, single family dwelling. The fire appears to have started in the front bedroom on the second floor, and was quickly spreading into the hallway and the second bedroom of the fire building. Firefighters made an aggressive attack on the fire containing it to the second floor. The remainder of the house sustained heavy smoke, heat, and water damage. The homes at 104 and 108 also sustained smoke damage. Thirty five (35) firefighters brought the blaze under control at 1503 hours.
Two occupants of the home, a woman and a juvenile, were transported to the Wilmington Hospital and were being treated for smoke inhalation at the time of this writing. They had escaped from the residence prior to the arrival of the fire department. It did not appear that there were any working smoke detectors in the residence. There were no injuries to the firefighters on the scene.
The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation by the Wilmington Fire Department Fire Marshal
