The Gastonia Fire Department responded to a report of multiple patients run over by a backhoe at the new Dole Foods Plant site at Oates & Edgewood Road.
Two patients were found, one with minor injuries, and one underneath the backhoe in a trench. The patient appeared to be conscious and breathing with unknown injuries.
Rescue 3 and Engine 8 removed the second patient by backboard and both were transported by Crowder's Mountain Volunteer Fire & Rescue and GEMS to Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Additional mutual aid and man power came from Agriculture Center Fire Department and Tryonota Fire Department.
