January 26, 2004 - Around 1400 hours, members at Potomac Hills Volunteer Fire Department (Stafford County Company 10) were taking advantage of a quiet period after running 26 calls between 1700 hours Sunday and 1300 hours Monday.
During this time period, the Northern Virginia area was hit with a major winter storm which started late Sunday afternoon and dumped approximately four inches of snow and ice in Stafford County. At 1418 hours, Wagon 10, Wagon 2 (Stafford Volunteer Fire Department), Medic 10-1 and Rescue 3-2 (Widewater Volunteer Fire Department) were dispatched to the area of 3987 Jeff Davis Highway (US Route 1) for an auto accident.
Wagon 10's crew decided to respond with Squad 10 and because of the potential of someone being trapped and Company 2 was responding with their Wagon. After the initial dispatch, Stafford County Emergency Communications Center (E-911) upgraded the accident to a vehicle into a tree with entrapment. First units on the scene were Squad 10 and Medic 10-1, where they discovered the driver was trapped in the vehicle.
The Squad crew quickly stabilized the vehicle and began to extricate the patient. Wagon 2 assisted the Squad with removing the roof and both doors on the driver
