At approx 2300 hrs on Tuesday, January 27 the Bellefonte Fire Department was dispatched for building fire in Spring Township. Within a few minutes police were on the scene reporting a working fire. An interior attack was attempted but the fire was forcing the interior crews back down the steps. At that time electric lines fell on both sides of the building and a defensive attack was initiated. Efforts were also hampered by the weather as temperatures were in the teens with snow and high winds.
The Pleasant Gap Fire Company, Bellefonte EMS and the American Red Cross assisted at the scene. The occupants of the building (5 adults and 5 children) escaped without injury and were transported to the EMS station where the Red Cross provided housing and clothing. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the BFD and the State Police Fire Marshal.
