Youngstown, Ohio -- Youngstown Firefighters were again stretched to the limit late Sunday night and early Monday morning. The fire department received calls shortly after 11:30 pm for a vacant structure fire on Indiana in the area of Wick Avenue.
Engines 7, 12, 6, Squad 33, Ladder 22, Battalion 1, and Battalion 2 were dispatched. Engine 7 arrived on scene and reported a working fire in a 2 story brick residential.
The house had been the scene of a 2 alarm fire on New Years Eve. Engine 7 arrived on scene and reported a 2 story vacant residential with fire showing.
As crews were fighting the fire on Indiana, dispatch was receiving several calls for a fire in the same block, 1 street over on Illinois.
Engine 12 pulled up at 54 Illinois and reported a 3 story large vacant wood frame residential with the third floor fully involved and the 2nd floor partially involved.
Engines 2, 3, 9 and Ladder 24 were dispatched. Battalion 2 also responded from Indiana at 11:54 p.m. Crews on Illinois had exposures on both sides of the fire building.
Ladder 24 was set up to protect an exposure while hand lines were employed to protect the other exposure. As crews were making their attack on Illinois, Engine 15 was requested to cover downtown in case another alarm came in.
Their standby would be short lived.
At 12:06 am, dispatch announced a third vacant structure fire a short distance from the other two fires. Engines 15 and 9 responded to a reported vacant structure fire at 25 Tacoma.
Fire control also responded.
Engine 6 left Indiana and was the first company on scene. Engine 6 reported a 2 story wood frame vacant residential with heavy smoke and flames showing from the rear of the building. Engine 6's crew made an aggressive interior attack and quickly knocked the fire down.
All city companies were back in service around 3 am.
