Rhode Island Firefighters Battle Auto Body Shop Blaze

The West Warwick, Rhode Island Fire Department responded to the corner of River St. and East Ave. for a reported structure fire on Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at approximately 2000 hrs.

The West Warwick, Rhode Island Fire Department responded to the corner of River St. and East Ave. for a reported structure fire on Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at approximately 2000 hrs.

Upon arrival, West Warwick E-3 had heavy smoke and fire in the attic of this single-story, 75x100 brick auto body shop.

Companies set up large lines and were hampered by winds and fridged temperatures. Wind chills were below zero at the height of the fire. West Warwick was assisted by a task force from the Warwick Fire Department.

In all, 6 engines, 2 ladders, and 2 rescues were used to control the blaze. The fire is still under investigation.
