On the first day of February, 2006, at approximately 2:30 am, the White Settlement Fire Department responded to the report of a residential structure fire in the 800 block of Perry in the city.
Chief Tim Ellis was first on and reported heavy fire showing from the roof of the structure. The first fighting unit on was Pump 3 with Lt. Todd Williams, Firemen Robert McDonald and Steve Osborn with Engineer Kevin Richter.
These firemen made entry through a door on the back of the home and immediately began an interior attack.
Other units which responded were Pump 1, Quint 1, and Utility 1. The fire was very hot, which was shortening the amount of time firefighters could withstand the heat, so Command requested dispatch to call for mutual aid units.
Firefighters from the Naval Air Station at the Joint Reserve Base responded with one pump truck and 3 men. Lockheed and Lake Worth also pitched in to help with a crew from each station. Also a Med Star Ambulance unit responded, but was not needed as there were no injuries.
The fire was brought under control after about 30 minutes.
Units were on scene for about 3 hours overhauling the scene.
The residents were not home at the time of the fire. The home appears to be a total loss.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
