Alachua County, FL - Following a major vehicle accident, I-75's northbound lanes were closed twice in an hour as Shandscair transported two motorists in critical condition.

Just after 9am this morning, emergency personnel from Alachua County Fire Rescue and the High Springs Fire Department (HSFD) responded to a vehicle accident on I-75 at mile marker 401 northbound.

Upon arrival, Alachua County Fire and Rescue (ACFR) Engine 21 firefighters found a full-size pickup truck lying on its roof in a grass ditch to the right of the travel lanes. Unfortunately, the driver and the passenger were entrapped and extensive extrication was required to free both for transport.

Emergency personnel from Squad 16, ACFR's specialized technical rescue vehicle, worked with firefighters from HSFD to swiftly extricate the first patient for transport. While the first motorist was being flown to Shands UF, crews continued to extricate the driver who was pinned beneath the vehicle after being ejected during the rollover.

Additionally, medical personnel from ACFR Rescue 20 and HSFD worked to keep the patient stable during the extrication.

Following his extrication, the patient was also transported by Shandscair.

Both adult male patients were in critical condition at the time of transport.
