At 3:42 pm, Friday, January 13, 2006, the Briar Oaks Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire on Rough Road, off FM917 in Johnson County, Texas.
Their brush truck was first on scene, finding smoke coming from one house with a nearby shed on fire from the spreading grass fire.
With winds gusting to 43 mph, the grass fire was already to the neighboring house and the mobile home two houses away.
While in route, they had requested mutual aid from the Keene Fire Department and upon arrival, immediately requested an engine and brush truck from the Alvarado Fire Department.
Due to heavy trees surrounding the many houses in the path of the fast spreading fire, mutual aid was provided by the following departments: Burleson Fire Department, Joshua Volunteer Fire Department, Lillian Volunteer Fire Department, Godley Volunteer Fire Department, and the Tarrant County tanker.
As there were no hydrants in the area, the first two engines on scene attacked the original structure fire. By the time the third engine arrived, the mobile home located two houses down was fully involved.
The work of the eight fire departments did save a number of homes in the area. The two homes were total losses.
Emergency support services provided needed liquids, food, and medical support. No injuries were reported.
