On December 22nd, 2003, Jacksonville Firefighters battled a 2-alarm marina fire in the Mandarin section of Jacksonville.
The fire started shortly before 8pm in the bait and tackle shop section of the marina, a portion of which is also used for storage. The fire burned up the bait and tackle shop as well as the marina's main office.
Upon devouring the main office, the fire started to make its way into the eaves of a makeshift attic area. The fire then got out of the attic and then began to consume some of the boats docked nearby. Firefighters stopped the fire while limiting damage to 3 boats. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Hazardous Materials Team also contained a small diesel spill that had found its way into the creek.
No firefighters were injured battling the blaze. Damage to the marina is estimated to be about $500,000.
