West Covina Firefighters were dispatched to numerous calls reporting a fire near the intersection of Orange and Cameron Avenues in the city of West Covina. Companies en-route reported a large header as they approached the scene.
West Covina Firefighters first on scene reported a large two story commercial with heavy fire showing, quickly requesting a second alarm assignment. L.A. County Fire Department was brought in as part of the second alarm assignment.
The building, a two story office building in a large complex of office buildings, quickly collapsed on one end. Firefighters went immediately to a defensive mode attacking the blaze with handlines, portable and mounted monitors, and two ladder pipes. Firefighters also went to work protecting exposures.
There were unconfirmed reports that the building involved may have been a medical billing office.
It took firefighters over an hour to bring the blaze under control.
Damage was extensive, there were no reported injuries, the cause of the midnight blaze is under investigation.
