Shortly after 7:30 am, on December 7, 2005, 5 companies of Union Colony Fire Rescue firefighters, 1 Battalion Chief, 6 Command Staff, and 3 Support Personnel responded to a structure fire in North Greeley.
Ernie's Auto Upholstery was the companied that owned the flaming structure.
Fire crews arrived to find the business unoccupied and heavy smoke coming from the building. Because employees of the business had not yet arrived, fire crews forced entry into the building and found heavy fire.
During firefighting operations, three firefighters came into contact with objects that had been energized by fallen electrical wires, and were victims of electrical shock. The three were transported to North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley to be evaluated and all three were treated and released later in the day.
Fire crews were challenged by an outside temperature of minus 11 degrees.
Damage to the building and contents is estimated at $100,000 and the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
