Tremendous flames ripped through a gas station on Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead, Long Island, New York on the evening of December 6, 2005 .
Mechanics reported that the blaze began when fuel came in contact with a space heater that was being used inside the garage.

Firefighters from several surrounding communities were called to the scene to assist in the extinguishment of the blaze. Nassau County Fire Marshals were also on the scene to determine the exact cause.
