14:10 November 19, 2003, the Lillian Volunteer Fire Department in Johnson County, Texas was dispatched to a structure fire. The structure was approximately five miles from their firehouse. Smoke could be seen from 10 miles away.
The first firemen to the station requested mutual aid from the Briar Oaks VFD and the Alvarado FD for extra manpower and water shuttle.
Upon arrival at the scene at 14:24 the back part of the house, the carport, and the attic were showing flames. Due to limited water supply and the attic being in flames, the frame house was a total loss.
During the initial attack, a wind shift caused the flames to switch direction and two fire fighters suffered burns. One was burned on their leg and one was burned on their arm. One fire fighter had burns on his nomex hood.
