Cherry Hill New Jersey fire fighters were called to an industrial building fire in the Woodcrest section of the township on November 13, 2003. The first arriving Units found heavy fire showing from the roof of a three story, 700 x 300 building under construction.
Flames were spreading over 200 feet of the roof top and fanned by a 54 mile an hour wind which was hammering the South Jersey area. Dark black smoke could be seen from over 25 miles away. Huge 4x8 sheets of insulation board were on fire and being blown off the roof top showering down on the arriving firefighters.
Firefighters placed a Squirt plus an aerial ladder and a Tower Ladder in service. A second alarm was struck bringing additional companies from Cherry Hill Township. An aerial ladder from the Haddon Fire Company of Haddonfield, NJ plus a Field Communication Unit from Camden County, NJ also responded.
The roof fire was quickly knocked down as firefighters moved in hand lines to mop up the fires on the ground.
Cherry Hill, NJ Fire Chief Robert Giorgio had high praise for all of the fire fighters for making a quick stop to this fast moving blaze under such dangerous conditions.
The fire was placed "Under Control" in about 45 minutes. The fire is under investigation by the Cherry Hill Township and Camden County Fire Marshal's office.
