On Monday, October 13, at 3:49 AM, the Avenel Fire Department was dispatched to a reported bread truck on fire at the corner of Rahway Avenue and Yale Avenue.
Upon arrival, a well involved bakery truck was found.
The fire was quickly knocked down with an 1 3/4" handline, but not before the truck and the baked goods were completely destroyed.
The driver stated that he was driving down the road when sparks and smoke started to pour out from underneath the dashboard. He said the fire quickly started to develop and grew out of control involving the rest of the truck.
The fire is under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious.
