Shortly before 4pm, on Sunday, Oct 23rd, the Mountain Iron Fire Department was paged out for a fully involved garage fire with reported explosion.
While En route to the fire, units were advised that there was kerosene, automotive painting materials and a freshly painted vehicle in the garage.
First due engine confirmed a fully involved structure and crews went to work with a 2 1/2 inch line, and a 1 1/3 inch line in an effort to contain the fire and reduce heat to the exposures of a neighboring garage and a residence.
Foaming operations began immediately as crews had to knock back fire venting from the doors and windows before gaining access to the interior of the structure.
Downed powerlines from the building and the potential of further explosive material within the garage created additional hazards.
The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes and crews remained on scene performing extensive overhaul for several hours.
No one was injured and the cause will be investigated.
