Three people are homeless and a DC Firefighter was burned battling a two-alarm fire in Northeast D.C. early this morning.
Just before 2:30am, units from the District of Columbia Fire Department were called to the 500 block of 24th Place NE for a reported apartment building on fire.
When firefighters arrived they encountered heavy fire coming from the rear porches of two apartment buildings.
Battalion Fire Chief G. Graves of the Second Battalion arrived on the scene and requested a second alarm to be transmitted.
A "MAYDAY" was reported after one firefighter operating on the second floor fell through to the first floor. Firefighters quickly located the member uninjured on the first floor and removed him from the building.
It took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control with one firefighter being transported to a local hospital suffering burns to the hands according to Alan Etter, Public Information Officer for DC Fire/EMS.
The cause of the early morning blaze is under investigations by DC fire Department
