Shortly before noon on Sept. 28, 2003 Station 16-1, Squad 1647, Squad 297, and medics were dispatched for a MVA rescue assignment/vehicle fire. Police on location reported fire showing from the engine compartment, with a civilian extinguishing the blaze with an extinguisher.
First arriving units (Squad 1647, Engine 1612 and Rescue 1615) found 2 cars heavily damaged. One vehicle was on its side, with 1 occupant entrapped, as well as one entrapped in the other car. The impact came to rest leaning on a telephone pole. Rescue Company 115 from Audubon was on the street and was added to the box.
Both rescue companies worked to extricate the 2 occupants. A total of 4 BLS, 3 ALS,1 ALS Supervisor, 2 Rescues, and 2 Engines worked at the scene.
Medical problems were the cause of a head on collision. 2 occupants were in serious condition, one minor. All 3 occupants were transported to Cooper Trauma in Camden City.
