On October 22, 2005, at approximately 11:05 pm, the North Palos Fire Protection District received a call for a furnace explosion and fire at a home in Palos Hills, Illinois at 8607 West 98th Street.
The first engine to arrive on scene was North Palos Engine 813. They reported a large tri-level home with heavy fire and smoke showing.
Next to arrive on scene and assume command was North Palos Battalion 8 (Deputy Chief DanRrussell). The chief requested a full still assignment for the working fire.
Due to the heavy volume of fire and smoke, the chief ordered all companies out of the building and a defensive attack was used.
Truck 804 put the aerial up and the ladder pipe to work.
Assistance at the scene was provided by Bridgeview Engine 405, Roberts Park Tower 305, Chicago Ridge Engine 6523.
R.I.T. assignments were given to Burbank Squad 203 and Oak Lawn Squad 1.
EMS on stand by at scene were Worth Ambulance 6712, and Bridgeview Ambulance 406.
The fire was brought under control in about 60 minutes.
Crews remained on scene for overhaul and investigation for over 3 hours.
