Nuzzi Fuel Company Destroyed by Fire in New York

On Sepember 27, construction workers operating on a gas line ruptered it, sparking a massive fire that spread throughout numerous businesses along Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park around 10:30 am.

On September 27th, construction workers operating on a gas line ruptered it, sparking a massive fire that spread throughout numerous businesses along Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park around 10:30 am.

The incident which occurred near Covert Lane, sent a fireball up in the air. With gusty weather conditions, it helped the fire quickly spread to a nearby Nuzzi Fuel Company. As New Hyde Park firefighters first arrived on the scene, heavy fire was visible.

With heavy volume of fire, firefighters were ordered to switch to an exteior attack. Numerous tower ladders and handlines were used to knock down the fire.

Mutual Aid was requested from several other departments. The fire was brought under control within a few hours, but not before damaging a pet store, dance studio and pizzeria.

One firefighter was transported to a local hospital with smoke inhalation.
