It took Los Angeles Firefighters close to 45 minutes to knock down a fast moving blaze that spread from a row of garages to the second floor and attic of a two story apartment house on the 1400 block of Midvale Avenue in West Los Angeles.
L.A. Firefighters first on scene were hampered by downed and precariously hanging power lines in the alley behind the well involved structures.
Access to the two story, four unit apartment house was made through a narrow walkway in front.
Firefighters also went to work protecting exposures, a two story commercial across the alley to the East, a large apartment building to the North and a house to the South.
Firefighters knocked down the blaze with numerous handlines from within and outside the structures involved. Twenty L.A. Fire Companies responded to the scene in one of L.A.'s more "upscale" neighborhoods. At least nine people were displaced due to the fire.
Damage was estimated as $750,000 to the structure and $250,000 to its contents.
There were no reported injuries, the cause of the late night fire is under investigation.
