On August 26, 2003 Vestal Fire Department Engine 4 and Tower 1 were dispatched to 925 Vestal RD for a light smoke condition in a single family dwelling.
Upon arrival, Eng. 4 encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure. The Lt. on board E4 quickly requested a 2nd alarm to be struck bringing a County Fire Coordinator, 3 engines, 2 rescues, a foam unit, FAST team and manpower.
Crews from the Engine and Tower quickly went to work on the rapidly advancing fire. Crews were making progress when the fire flashed and command ordered a defensive attack. With the help of over 55 firefighters, the fire was declared under control within 50 minutes with crews from the initial alarm held for approx. 3.5 hrs for overhaul.
No injuries were reported.
