D.C. Crews Rescue Man From River

WASHINGTON, D.C.  - Spectators lining the shoreline of a Washington DC waterfront park cheered as firefighters plucked a man from the murky waters of the Potomac River in the Georgetown area on May 24. The initial call came in around 9:30 p.m., for a person in the water at Wisconsin Avenue and K Street NW. Crews found an adult male clinging to the bulkhead 30 feet below in the river where he had fallen while taking photographs.

WASHINGTON, D.C.  - Spectators lining the shoreline of a Washington DC waterfront park cheered as firefighters plucked a man from the murky waters of the Potomac River in the Georgetown area on May 24.

The initial call came in around 9:30 p.m., for a person in the water at Wisconsin Avenue and K Street NW. Crews found an adult male clinging to the bulkhead 30 feet below in the river where he had fallen while taking photographs.

Two rescue swimmers from Rescue Squad 1 leapt into the dark waters and swam to the victim. They  secured him to a ladder lowered down to them. The crew of DC Fire Boat 2 completed the rescue.

The victim was taken to a nearby boathouse where he was evaluated by EMS, and found to be uninjured.

An engine, truck company, two heavy rescues, the hazmat, and several chief officers and EMS units were assigned to this incident.
