The building involved is a large two-story medical office building under construction at approximately 50  percent complete.

Construction on the project stopped sometime late 2009 or early 2010, and the building has been vacant.

People from businesses on Centennial Center Boulevard saw smoke coming from the building and called 9-1-1. When they looked again they saw kids running from the building.

They were throwing rocks and breaking windows on the building as they left. Police were unable to find the kids after a search of the area.

Firefighters found the fire on the first floor of a large area near the elevator shaft to the second floor.

The building was full of smoke. A second alarm was dispatched in case the fire had spread to the second floor. The fire was confined to the first floor and quickly extinguished.

After the fire was extinguished, fire investigators found evidence that other fires had occurred in or near the building in the past that the fire department was not aware of.

The vacant building is not secured to keep people out. There were no injuries.

The incident remains under investigation to determine who is responsible for the fire.
