Massachusetts Firefighters Tackle Vacant Building Fire

When Fitchburg Engine 4 was dispatched for smoke in the area of on Dec. 19, they arrived to find heaving smoke showing from a vacant building around 10 p.m. Firefighters, under the command of Deputy Chief Paul Vallincourt, pushed hoselines into the two-story building at 19 Chestnut St. Using several handlines, the fire was knocked down and under control in about 30 minutes. One firefighter was treated for a minor eye injury. The cause is undetermined at this time.
