At 1:19 p.m., Sheffield-Wheelock Fire Department was dispatched to 1327 Sheffield Square Rd for a reported structure fire.
Shortly after the initial dispatch the Chief Mark Brown of the Sheffield- Wheelock FD , reported back to their dispatch center in St. Johnsbury that they had a working fire and requested mutual aid from Lyndonville FD, Sutton FD and Glover Fire Department.
Crews mounted a defensive attack do to the fact that the home was totally engulfed.
Glover Fire Chief Allen Mathews Sr. reported that he could see a large column of black smoke and he was about two miles away.
As of 2:20 p.m., there had been no reported injuries. Chief Mark Brown was unsure if anyone had been home at the time of the fire.
The primary concern was to keep a large propane tank watered down so as it did not levy.
While crews were work the scene other firefighters from there respected departments were driving tanker trucks approximately seven miles one way to be filled with water.
"This is a very remote area of Sheffield with no immediate water source", said a firefighter from the Sutton FD directing traffic.
Later, it was learned that Helen Johnson, the homeowner, was not at home the time of the fire.
The American Red Cross has been called to assist her with Temporary housing.
Lyndon Rescue Squad was also standing by. The temperature as of 2:20 p.m., was 10 degrees.
The cause was traced to a woodstove.
