At approximately 3:45 p.m.,Green Bay firefighters were dispatched to 101 S Chestnut Ave. for a fire in the building.
Crews encountered heavy smoke and fire from a commercial structure with apartments above.
Due to the rapid spread of the fire, crews initiated a defensive operation. The fire was up graded to the "working still" level, bringing all on- duty apparatus and personnel to the fire and back filling of Green Bay stations with MABAS change of quarters companies.
The fire was eventually upgraded to the box alarm level, which brought MABAS departments to the scene, and recall of off duty personnel to staff reserve apparatus.
Green Bay operated seven engine companies, two ladder companies, three ambulances, and numerous chief officers.
The Village of Howard also placed their tower ladder into operation with the Village of Ashwaubenon and Bellevue companies in staging.
At the height of the fire, three tower ladders, two ground monitors, and several handlines were in operation.
There is not cause for this fire, but the loss may reach $1M.
