City of Buffalo firefighters were called to 425 Auburn Street on the City's West Side at 0225 hours on Friday morning March 7th.
First due companies found an occupied 2 1/2 story wood frame dwelling with heavy smoke and fire showing from the first and second floors. There was an exposure problem on the #2 side that was knocked down quickly.
Battalion Chief Tony Hynes (B-44) and Division Chief Edward Craver (B-56) called for an additional 2 Engines and 1 Truck early on in the fire to assist the crews making and aggressive interior attack. A firefighter from Truck 4 fought back the heat and smoke as he tried to vent the 2nd floor and attic windows. Firefighters from Truck 6 made a hasty retreat down Truck 4's arial from their vent positions on the roof after the fire in the attic beneath them vented through.
After 40 minutes battling the blaze, Chief Craver called the fire under control at 0307 hours, but crews remained on scene until 0436 completing the extensive overhaul. No occupants were in the structure at the time of the fire.
