OCALA, Fla. - Shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Sat., May 29 Ocala Fire Rescue responded to a tanker truck fire involving 8,800 gallons of gasoline.
Initially flames could be seen shooting eighty feet into the air. All traffic in both directions of Interstate I-75 was shut down for more than three hours. The truck driver was able to escape without injury.
Firefighters called for the Ocala Airport rescue firefighting truck to respond to help extinguish the flames. Thousands of gallons of foam were utilized.
The cause of the fire was not immediately determined. The northbound lanes in which the incident occurred remained shut down for some time after the incident. A unified command system with Marion County Fire Rescue was established to communicate about who was working a vehicle collision in the vicinity
