Cornwall, NY Firefighters Battle Multiple Alarm Fire in Bitter Cold

At approximately 0140 hours on Sunday, January 19, 2003 Cornwall firefighters were alerted to a possible stucture fire at 5 Oak Tree Dr in the Town of Cornwall.

At approximately 0140 hours on Sunday, January 19, 2003 Cornwall firefighters were alerted to a possible stucture fire at 5 Oak Tree Dr in the Town of Cornwall. The outside temperature at time of call was 0 degrees.

Command arrived a short time later to report heavy fire from the roof area of a private dwelling. An immediate request for mutual aid was placed for Cornwall On Hudson, Salisbury Mills and Woodbury with tankers and Vails Gate with a FAST Team.

With bitter cold temperatures and lengthy hose lays required to reach the scene from the closest water source an additional mutual aid request was placed for Washingtonville, Fort Montgomery & New Windsor. Several other deparments were placed on standby, along with Cornwall Volunteer Ambulance who was on standby at the scene.

The fire which is beleived to have started in the chimney area is under investigation. The home sustained heavy damage and there were no injuries reported.
