Units from city of Keyser, WV Fire Dept. were alerted at 1532 hrs. for a confirmed structure fire in the former Longhorn Restaurant and hotel on Main Street in Keyser, Thursday 01/02/02.
Police units on the scene reported heavy black smoke showing from the second floor rear of the building and heavy flames coming from the second floor windows.
The first alarm included 2 engine companies, a Tele-Squrt Unit and a Utility unit all from the Keyser Fire Dept.
Fire Dept. personnel responding from Keyser's station #1 less that 2-blocks from the scene immediately requested a second alarm.
The second alarm assignment, responding at 1540 hrs. included 2 Rescue / Engine companies from McCoole, MD Fire and Rescue Department, a Engine, Tanker, and Air Unit from the New Creek, WV Fire Department, a Truck Company from Tri-Towns Fire Co., No.1 of Piedmont, WV, and a Standby Engine Company at Keyser Station #1 from the Fountain, WV Fire Department.
Due to the heavy fire conditions on the upper floor and the general condition of the building before the fire, it was decided by command to attack the fire using an exterior attack only.
Truck 24 from Tri-Towns set up in the alley at the rear of the building and established an ladder pipe operation.
Rescue Engines 2312 and 2311 from McCoole both located separate large main fed hydrants and laid individual 5.00" supply lines to T24 and to support the master stream and exposure protection operations in the rear of the fire ground.
The Keyser units established a defensive position on Main Street at the front of the building with Squrt 3350 and with a master stream device from engine 3315.
Units clear the scene around 2330 hrs.
