East Orange, New Jersey Blaze Guts Retired Firefighters' House

On Friday, January 3rd, 1045 hours, the East Orange Fire Department responed to 71 Fairmont Terrace on a reported house fire.

Upon arrival DC Straut reported a 2.5 story wood frame fully involved.

A specail call for additional Ladder Co and Fast co to scene on arrival.

Heavy fire was venting out entire front of the dwelling.

Firefighters pulled out and a ladder pipe was set up for exterior opperations.

The stairs leading from the 2nd fl to the 3rd were burnt away leaving no access to top floors.

With heavy fire and smoke through out upper floors, exterior hand lines were positioned around the dwelling.

No injuries were reported.

Neighbors reported that the owner of the house was a retired Newark, NJ Firefighter and left the house apx 60 minutes before fire broke out.

Fire was placed Under Control at 1110 hours with companies remaining on scene for extended overhaul.
