House Fire in New Jersey Tackled

Sept. 22, 2009

On Thursday , Sept. 17 , most fire departments are running a little short on staffing due to members attending the firefighters' convention in Wildwood.

At approximately 4 p.m., the Maywood (NJ) Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 140 East Spring Valley Ave. Assistant Chief Joe Malone received reports from dispatch of a working fire, through the roof, he immediately requested dispatch to fill out the FAST assignment.

He was met with heavy fire conditions showing from the rear of the structure with flames extending over the roof line. Chief Mulvaney assumed command, and requested additional mutual aid companies to the scene and for coverage.

The Hackensack Fire Department initially requested as the FAST was put right to work assisting Maywood Truck 17 with venting the roof. An additional engine from Hackensack was requested. Deputy Chiefs Wagner and Kalman of the Hackensack responded to assist the Incident commander. Additional mutual aid was requested from Paramus, Lodi, Rochelle Park Saddle Brook and Elmwood Park.
