Two alarms were struck on Sept. 15 for a house fire at 1005 E. Millbrook Road in Raleigh.
Callers reported explosions and people possibly trapped. The crew of Engine 9 found a split-level residence with heavy fire showing. One person was reported inside.
Command quickly requested a second alarm. Crews started an interior attack as well as primary searches. They were withdrawn within 20 minutes, and a defensive attack was started. Ladder 1 was utilized for aerial operations.
Raleigh police closed Millbrook Road in both directions as all five lanes were used for operations and staging. Two hydrants supplied apparatus.
Additional companies were special called for personnel, and also relocated for coverage. The fire was marked under control at 5:29 p.m.
Wake County EMS units provided medical monitoring and rehab with additional supplies brought by EMS Truck 1, a special operations unit.
Two firefighters were transported with minor injuries. Both were released Tuesday evening.
Several pets were rescued from the building. The body of an adult male was located in the structure that evening.
The cause of the fire was determined as an accidental gas explosion in the lower-level of the structure. Command was terminated at 11:18 p.m.
