While fireworks rang through the air early July 4, all companies of the Community Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to a structure fire in the suburban part of southwest Houston.

Heavy smoke was visible upon Engine 1's arrival and a fast attack was initiated. The family was already safely out of the burning house.

With dry and hot conditions, the fire quickly engulfed the attic and Fire Chief Fowler ordered crews to evacuate the structure. The fire was fought defensively for about an hour until it was brought under control.

The damage to the brick house was extensive, and an arson investigator was called to the scene. The cause is unknown.
