This last week may have been one of the most devastating ever for fire stations across the eastern half of the nation in terms of physical loss and heightened incident activity.
In one quick moment Thursday, September 16, Franklin Springs, Georgia lost their fire station, police station and city hall as an Ivan-spawned tornado hit the town. Mark Jerome who is the fire and police chief for the town was at his home two miles away recovering from surgery about 3:45 p.m. Through his radio he could hear the screams of the EMS personnel across the street from the building that houses his departments.
